In May 2023, China IGF submitted its advice to the UN Technical Special Envoy Office on the Global Digital Compact. It lays out 6 priorities including connect all people to the internet, avoid Internet fragmentation, protect data, apply human rights online, introduce accountability criteria for discrimination and misleading content and promote regulation of artificial intelligence.

To respond to the call of contributing to the Summit of the Future and the Global Digital Compact (GDC), the China IGF delivered an open proposal to invite the Chinese Internet community to join the GDC-related consultation process and contribute input from different expertise. Thanks for the community actively joined the process and shared their knowledge and insights.

Global Digital Compact

Following the political declaration adopted at the occasion of the United Nations’ 75th anniversary in September 2020, the Secretary-General in September 2021 released his report Our Common AgendaPDF. The Common Agenda proposes a Global Digital Compact to be agreed at the Summit of the Future in September 2024 through a technology track involving all stakeholders: governments, the United Nations system, the private sector (including tech companies), civil society, grass-roots organizations, academia, and individuals, including youth.

The Global Digital Compact is expected to “outline shared principles for an open, free and secure digital future for all”.

China IGF is the National IGF in China registered under the UN IGF’s National and Regional IGF initiatives (NRIs). It serves as a platform to promoting the discussions on issues of the Internet Governance arena for the Chinese community as well as facilitating the exchange and cooperation between the Chinese and international community, and sharing China's Internet governance best practice and experiences. Its secretariat work is undertaken by the Internet Governance Working Committee of the Internet Society of China.
