China IGF Launched the "West Coast Dialogue" Initiative

Recently, the "Accelerating 'Artificial Intelligence+' to Build New Productivity" forum of the 2024 World Artificial Intelligence Conference was held in Shanghai, co-hosted by Shanghai Jiao Tong University, CCTV Research Institute and Shanghai Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, and co-organized by China Internet Governance Forum (China IGF).
At the forum, a number of institutions jointly launched the "West Coast Dialogue: AI Safety and Governance Dialogue Network" construction initiative. As representatives of the initiating founders, Mr. Huang Chengqing, Vice President of Internet Society of China and Director of China IGF, and Ms. Zhang Xiao, Deputy Director of China Internet Network Information Center, member of UN IGF MAG and Deputy Director of China IGF, attended the forum, witnessed the launch of the West Coast Dialogue and participated in the related closed-door seminars during the conference.
The development, security and governance of artificial intelligence are international concerns but face new challenges. "The West Coast Dialogue” initiative aims to build a cross-disciplinary platform through a regular exchange mechanism to promote domestic and international governance and cooperation in order to better balance development and security in the era of artificial intelligence.
China IGF is the National IGF got approval by the UN IGF’s National and Regional IGF initiatives (NRIs). It serves as a platform to promoting the discussions on issues of the Internet Governance arena for the Chinese community as well as facilitating the exchange and cooperation between the Chinese and international community, and sharing China's Internet governance best practice and experiences. The secretariat of China IGF is undertaken by the Internet Governance Working Committee of the Internet Society of China (ISC).
