Madam Qiheng HU Inducted into the 2013 Internet Hall of Fame

June 26, 2013, today joins the ranks of notable individuals who have been inducted into the Internet Hall of Fame for their significant contributions to the advancement of the global Internet. The Internet Hall of Fame inducted Madam Qiheng HU, the President of Internet Society of China, for her contributions to China’s access to Internet and its development.
Madam Hu has been named a Global Connector, a category which recognizes and celebrates individuals
“This year’s Internet Hall of Fame inductees include extraordinary individuals that have helped make the Internet what it is today: the most successful global platform for communication, social, and economic development ever seen,” said Internet Society President and CEO Lynn St. Amour. “We applaud these inductees for their passion and commitment to the Internet and its role in making the world a better place.”
“This great honor must also be shared by many Chinese pioneers who had devoted themselves to bringing Internet into China,” Madam Hu said, “This big fame also belongs to the whole China Internet industy.”

1. ABOUT Madam Hu
Madam Hu led the NCFC project team to bring the Internet to mainland China. In 1994, as Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, she visited the National Science Foundation for discussions and these talks led to a consensus on setting up the first direct TCP/IP connection in China. In 1997, she founded the China Internet Network Information Center and has chaired its Steering Committee for over 10 years. This committee coordinates and integrates multi-stakeholders’ opinion to support CNNIC which manages the operation and development of Internet resources in China. She is President of Internet Society of China, a 400-plus-member civil society which she helped found in 2001. As the leader of ISC, Madam Hu helped to develop charitable activities promoting the Internet access and application for school students in the peripheral and disadvantaged areas of China. Madam Hu is also devoting herself to global Internet activities. She was a member of ICANN IDN Committee and a member of WGIG.
Madam Hu was educated in Russia as engineer on industrial process automatic control, and then a degree of Dr. Candidate in Technical Science. She has worked for the CWRU, USA, as a visiting research professor for 2 years. As one of the earliest investigators in the field of pattern identification and artificial intelligence in China, Madam Hu is a Research professor of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a member of Chinese Academy of Engineering.
